Control Over Default Display Name Format

Current Limitation

Right now, the display name is automatically generated from the email address (everything before the “@”), which creates several issues:

  • Names are often not properly capitalized

  • They can appear unprofessional or incomplete (e.g., “bobsmith” instead of “Bob Smith”)

  • In some cases, they may include numbers or business-related text that shouldn’t be client-facing

Additionally, we currently do not have the ability to edit or override this display name, which limits our control over how users appear within the platform.

Why This Matters

1. Client-Facing Experience
Names are visible in communication areas of the portal. Improper formatting immediately reduces the professionalism of the experience.

2. Brand Consistency
We are providing a high-touch, concierge-level service. Something as simple as a lowercase or incorrect name undermines that positioning.

3. Advisor Representation
Our advisors should appear with their correct, properly formatted names at all times. This is essential for credibility and trust.

What We Need

  • The ability to manually edit display names for all users

  • Option to set a default format (e.g., First Name + Last Name)

  • Ideally, the ability to separate fields (First Name, Last Name) instead of relying on email parsing

Benefits

  • Ensures a polished, professional appearance across the platform

  • Improves client trust and perception

  • Aligns with our brand standards

  • Eliminates the need for workarounds or incorrect naming

Bottom Line

Display names are a small detail with a big impact.

Without control over formatting, the platform can feel unfinished or unprofessional in client-facing areas. Giving us the ability to edit and standardize display names ensures the experience reflects the level of service we provide.
