Enable Australian Data Residency (ap-southeast-2) for NDIS Compliance
Description: My business, CareSync Compliance, builds applications for Australian NDIS providers. A mandatory, non-negotiable requirement for these clients is that all participant data must be stored exclusively within Australia.
The current US-only hosting means I cannot legally onboard clients, as they would be in breach of the Privacy Act 1988 and the NDIS Practice Standards. Without this feature, I am essentially locked out of the entire Australian market.
Why this is urgent: Data breaches now carry fines exceeding $15 million. NDIS providers cannot take that risk on a platform lacking data residency controls.
What is needed: I strongly +1 the requests for Australian hosting and urge you to prioritise the AWS Sydney (ap-southeast-2) region. This is the industry standard to meet the requirements of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Other helpful resources: For similar regulatory hurdles, the community has also noted the inability to comply with European GDPR standards, highlighting that this is not an isolated issue.
