Enable an optional project-level Knowledge Base that the Base44 AI Code Assistant can retrieve from during code generation. This would allow the assistant to use our architecture docs, naming conventions, data models, and integration rules without requiring repeated explanations in every chat. This feature would greatly improve consistency, reduce context loss, and support complex multi-app projects—while remaining optional for users who prefer a simpler workflow.
This is not about using RAG inside our own apps (which we can already build creatively today).
This request specifically targets the Base44 internal coding assistant.
Key capabilities requested:
Attach a project-level Knowledge Base
Markdown docs, architecture guidelines, API definitions, data schemas, JSON/YAML specs, naming conventions, etc.
Optional: Upload files or link private GitHub docs.
Automatic retrieval during coding tasks
The assistant should pull only the relevant snippets from the knowledge base (vector search / semantic search).
Users should not have to re-paste long documents.
Context persistence across sessions
The assistant remembers the system architecture, naming conventions, and rules we define.
Eliminates repetitive re-explanations.
Isolation per project / per app
Each Base44 app has its own private vector index.
Strict multi-tenant separation for security.
Optional toggle
Keep the simplicity of Base44 for typical users.
Power-users can enable RAG when complexity demands it.
Why this matters:
Many teams use Base44 to build large, multi-module systems (e.g. health platforms, energy solutions, ERP-like suites). These require consistent architecture rules, domain language, backend conventions, and integration patterns. Without RAG, the assistant often “forgets” previously shared details and falls back to generic assumptions.
This increases friction and reduces trust.
RAG would:
drastically increase consistency of generated code,
reduce repetitive prompting,
improve velocity for complex apps,
reduce errors caused by missing context,
and strengthen Base44’s position as an AI-native development platform.
Why it still fits Base44’s simplicity philosophy:
RAG could be hidden behind an advanced toggle.
It would not complicate the experience for mainstream users, while offering huge value for professional builders.
