I am writing to report multiple serious flaws in the Base44.com platform and to demand a full refund of all amounts paid for my subscription. This is due to critical defects, a lack of transparency, and structural problems that have rendered the service completely unusable for its advertised purposes, causing me financial losses and damage to my professional reputation.
Since I contracted the service to develop an application for my client, I have faced the following grave and unacceptable problems:
Complete Absence of Scalability Policy: The platform offers no documentation or clear policy on how to scale an application in production. When my clients demanded transparency regarding traffic limits, resource consumption, infrastructure upgrade options, and SLA (Service Level Agreement), I was completely unable to provide it, resulting in the loss of the project and severe damage to my credibility.
Unexplained Blocking by External Servers: The application hosted on Base44.com becomes inaccessible and is blocked by various third-party services (such as payment APIs, email marketing services, and analytics tools) when the final domain is not registered or pointed within Base44's own ecosystem. This serious technical limitation was never communicated and makes professional use with essential integrations impossible.
Lack of Transparency and Hidden Costs: The resource consumption architecture (such as "units" or credits) is opaque and confusing. There is no clear control panel showing real-time consumption, spending forecasts, or alerts before resource exhaustion, resulting in surprise charges and abrupt service stoppages.
Chronic Platform Instability: During development, I experienced constant downtime, connection drops to the editor, and failures in auto-save, causing recurring work loss and significant delays.
Severe Undisclosed Technical Limitations: I only discovered severe undocumented restrictions during advanced use, such as:
An extremely low limit for file uploads (images, videos), making media-rich applications unviable.
Severe restrictions on background processes or long-running operations, making it impossible to implement basic features like report generation or data processing.
Insufficient or absent debugging and logging tools, making it extremely difficult to identify and fix errors in the generated code.
Lack of Portability and Extreme Vendor Lock-in: The generated code is difficult to extract and adapt to other environments, creating an irreversible dependency (vendor lock-in) on the platform, which is an unacceptable commercial risk for any serious project.
It is crucial to emphasize that none of these critical limitations or structural defects were clearly and visibly communicated during the sales phase. The marketing promises a robust, professional platform for developing scalable applications, which has proven to be false and misleading.
Legal Basis: In Brazil, the Consumer Defense Code (Law No. 8,078/1990) is categorical in cases like this:
Art. 18: The supplier is liable for defects in products and services that render them unfit for use or reduce their value. The consumer may demand, alternatively, repair, replacement, a price reduction, or contract termination with a refund.
Art. 31: Offers and advertising must contain clear and truthful information. Omitting serious defects like those listed above constitutes a hidden defect and misleading advertising.
Art. 39, IV: It is an abusive and prohibited practice to fail to provide essential information about the product that influences the purchase decision.
Given the Gravity of the Facts, I Demand: The full and immediate refund of all amounts paid to Base44.com, as the service has intrinsic defects, fails to fulfill its essential purpose, and has caused me direct material damages (loss of client and project).
If this request is not satisfactorily addressed within 05 (five) business days of receiving this email, I hereby inform you that:
I will initiate all applicable legal measures based on the Consumer Defense Code, including filing a complaint with PROCON (Brazilian consumer protection agency) and legal action to recover the amounts paid, plus compensation for material damages (loss from the failed project) and moral damages (for breach of trust and harm to my professional reputation).
I will publicly disclose in detail, on development forums (such as Stack Overflow, Reddit, GitHub communities), professional social networks (LinkedIn), and review channels, my entire negative experience, the concealed serious technical defects, the lack of transparency, and the losses caused by Base44.com. This will be done to alert the developer community and prevent other professionals from facing the same situation.
I trust that Base44.com will act responsibly to resolve this serious breach of contract. I await your immediate response confirming the refund process.
